TIPS FOR TRAVELING WITH CATS

I’ve been taking Shark on the road since the day we got him. Below, I’ve put together a few tips I’ve learned along the way.

1) Exposure is necessary. The more you bring them out and to new places, the more comfortable they will become with it. SodaPop (our American Curl) used to HATE going in the car and would hide in his carrier the whole time but now he come out to say hi a little more! 🙂

2) Always bring a litter box in the car that the cats can access.

3) Get them comfortable on a leash and ESCAPE PROOF harness. We’ve tried SEVERAL and let me tell you, they aren’t all escape proof. This —-> harness is the ONLY one we use and trust.

4) Carry biodegradable poop bags. You’ll need them for walks outdoors and also to clean out the litter box.

5) Don’t leave home without a tracker! If your feline family member escapes, you’ll want to be able to locate them. Check out the ones I use and recommend on this blog post.

6) ID tags are also important in the event that the tracker battery happens to die. My favorite ID tags are the Byte Tags, which also include a QR code people can scan outside of veterinary offices, to learn everything they need to know about your pets needs and how to get them back to you safely.

7) When you get the hotel, check for any health hazards or possible escape routes. Once you’ve made sure the space is secure, set up the litter box, as well as their food and water and let them explore at the it at their own pace. Make sure they notice where the litter box is.

7) Bring some of their favorite toys from home to make them feel more comfortable.

8) Don’t forget food, snacks, water & bowls. I found THE BEST water/food/bowl set up and I haven’t looked back since starting to use it. You can use the code FAUNA for a discount on your first purchase.

9) Last but not least, a high quality carrier that they can go into for privacy or to make them feel safe. Some cats want to hide when they feel uncomfortable or scared, having a quality carrier is essential for this. It’s also great if you need to contain them temporarily for whatever reason. The code FAUNA will get you 10% off at Surfer Cat Luxury.

Do you have anything you would like to add? Or maybe some questions? Let me know! 😻
